Lombok island, is a province in Indonesia, known as Nusa Tenggara Barat (West Nusa Tenggara) Nusa Tenggara is Indonesian for “southeast islands.” Lombok belong to one of the Lesser Sunda Islands; lying east of Bali across the Lombok Strait, and west of Sumbawa across the Alas Strait. To the north of Lombok is the Java Sea, to the south the Indian Ocean, the Flores Sea to the northeast, the Sape Strait to the east, Lombok Strait to the west.
In a nutshell, the capital of Lombok is Mataram, in West Lombok. The city is the administration center of the island. Over time, Ampenan, Cakranegara, and Mataram, have merged into an urban center of Lombok that thrives as a trade hub for locals and businesses from Bali and Jawa island.
Lombok Airport, also known as Zainuddin Abdul Majid International Airport is located 40km from Mataram, and 55km from Senggigi, a popular tourist area in West Lombok.
Road links via the airport are connected to Mataram, and other developing districts i.e Kuta and Selong Blanak that provides tourist facilities including hotels and restaurants.
